Monopoly

From Board Game Barrage Wiki

One of the most well known and popular board games of the 20th century, Monopoly was originally designed by Lizzie Magie as The Landlord's Game to demonstrate the problems with monopolies. The idea was seemingly stolen and the game now sees players rolling dice to move around the board and purchase or bid on properties, charging anyone who lands on them exorbitant rent if you control all like properties, until one player has all the money renaining in the game. The game is frequently criticized in the hobby for running too long and having too few meaningful decisions.
