'''SUNDAY'''

'''Why do you play games?'''

For me, playing games does 3 things.

1. They allow me to solve puzzles.

2. They let me use my imagination.

3. They give me a reason to interact with friends.

'''What are your favorite games in your collection? Not in your collection?'''

This may be a dorky answer but a few years ago, I worked with someone that got back into playing Yu-Gi-Oh! and it reminded me how much I loved playing it as a kid. However, now that I'm an adult, I was able to go online and buy a Slifer, The Sky Dragon card. Even though it's not great, the nostalgia from childhood makes it one of my favorite things in my collection. Related to that is the copy of Trogdor! that I got in the last BGG math trade from Sogekidan. That game has already brought back so much nostalgia and may be one of the few games I never get rid of.

'''Favorite game not in my collection?'''

Probably La Granja. I've played it a few times on BGA and love the theme and the multi-use cards.

'''What games are you looking forward to playing more and why?'''

Luckily, a lot of my favorite games are soloable but I'm really looking forward to getting our Gloomhaven group back together. I also really want to play Bandada with other people so I can get more direct feedback about it.

'''What are the last three games that you played? What are your thoughts on them?'''

1. Lord of the Rings: LCG - I have had the core set for a few years but played it for the first time this week. I really liked the first scenario and quickly wanted to play more. I kept my starting deck as is and got walloped by the next scenarios. And then again 5 more times. I am still really looking forward to getting some new adventure packs and playing this more as it scratches that Yu-Gi-Oh! itch for me.

2. Ticket to Ride - I love any time my wife agrees to play a game with me even when it's an old classic like this. TTR is basically an evergreen game for me.

3. I don't wan this to turn in to a commercial but I did play Bandada last. My thoughts about it can be found elsewhere. :D

'''What would you change about your collection if you could?'''

Right now, it would be just getting rid of the ones I no longer need (see #math-trade). There are a few games that I'd love to add like La Granja and Leaving Earth but I'm really happy with the games that I have right now.

'''What is your BGG profile (so we can harass you for your ratings and comments and add you as a Geek Buddy)?'''

Runnaman - My ratings and comments are correct 100% all the time.

'''Any games currently on your wishlist?'''

Only 556 but some of those are expansions.

'''What game has your favorite component?'''

Hands down it's all the Dragon tokens in Trogdor! Fans of the webtoon will be able to recognize all the references and I love it so much.

'''MONDAY'''

'''What introduced you to the hobby?'''

When I was in college (2011) my brother and his girlfriend brought a copy of Ticket to Ride to a family gathering and I thought it was just like any other board game. That next year, I started getting into buying and selling vintage items from thrift stores. Mostly small electronics but eventually I started venturing into the game section to see if I could find Scrabble tiles (this was during the Scrabble tile boom). One day I found a copy of the original RoboRally and knew it was something special. When trying to find information about it online so I could sell it, I stumbled upon BoardGameGeek and everything was downhill from there.

'''Who do you normally play games with? Favorite people to beat? Are you into solo games?'''

<nowiki>*</nowiki>Checks BGStats App* This year, 61% of my games have been played solo. In a normal time, I would be playing games with my weekly game group. Occasionally, my wife will be interested in playing something so we'll play Ticket to Ride, Bananagrams, and the like.

'''What does a normal gaming week/month look like for you?'''

One of the great things about solo gaming is that I can just decide to unwind at the end of the day by playing something. Recently, I play a solo game 1-4 times per week.

'''What kind of games do you really enjoy? Never enjoy?'''

I really enjoy a lot of styles of games but my favorites would be mostly strategic games with a little bit of theme. I don't think we can say games are strictly Euro or Ameritrash anymore. I also like playing miniatures games sometimes but those are really hard to get to the table. I almost never enjoy Party Games or 100% Abstract Games.

'''What game was the biggest flop for you?'''

Scythe - I tried playing it 5 times at multiple player counts and it just didn't work for me. It didn't feel satisfying at the end.

'''What games are you most looking forward to trying that are new to you?'''

I got Arkwright in a recent trade and I cannot wait to play it. I love uncommon themes paired with lots of strategy and Arkwright seems to fit that perfectly.

'''What popular game would people be surprised to learn that you’ve never played?'''

Dominion But I have it now and plan to play it.

'''How do you decide on a start player? What is your favorite official start player rule?'''

Le Boomb! is the best way to pick a start player when the rulebook doesn't say. But I really like when a rulebook says something like "the last person to plant a tree in the Bahamas get's to go first."

'''TUESDAY'''

'''Where do you live?'''

Oregon, United States

'''What, besides board games, occupies your time?'''

I am a professional disc golfer so I spend a lot of my free time practicing during the week and then playing tournaments during the weekends. I usually play 10-20 tournaments a year and the majority of those are in the Spring and Summer.

'''What is the next vacation you’d like to take?'''

There are a lot of places I wish I go to right now but obviously everything is put on hold. If Covid wasn't a thing, I would be planning for ChaseCon which is something I started last year to celebrate my birthday. We invited some friends to stay in cabins, play disc golf during the day, and play board games in the evening. The other big event I was looking forward to was SHUX.

Any family or pets? I am 1 of 6 kids, so I come from a big family. My wife and I don't have any kids but we do have a dog. She's a Havanese and we got her when she was 7. Now she's 13 and pretty much only loves food.

'''Two truths and a lie.'''

* I ran in the 2012 Olympic Track Trials
* I was on the TV Show Portlandia
* I have never played 7 Wonders

'''Favorite TV shows? Any you’d suggest everyone watch? Anything too often overlooked?'''

* Community
* Avatar: The Last Airbender
* Spongebob
* Yu-Gi-Oh!
* Haikyuu!
* Bojack Horseman
* Parks and Rec

I suggest people watch all of them so my references are understood by more people.

'''WEDNESDAY'''

'''How did you find the Board Game Barrage Podcast? This discord?'''

When I was getting back into board game in 2018, I was looking through the board game subreddit and saw a video called the Board Game Barrage Top 50 Games. It's funny because I don't actually remember watching that video but I did subscribe to the podcast right then. I feel like I can say I was one of the original Discord members as I think I joined as soon as I heard about it on the podcast.

'''What question would you love to hear the tanks answer?'''

I would love to hear an honest discussion about solo gaming. No jokes, no dismissive statement. I want to hear if and why some tanks think solo gaming is an unimportant part of the hobby and I want to know how we can, as a community, make solo gamers feel more welcome and accepted.

'''What’s your favorite part of this Discord/why do you stick around?'''

I really like that there are enough gamers here that I can pretty much always have a conversation about whatever I want. I'll be honest and say I have most channels muted but I like that I have the option to go into those channels if I have a question about say, the Lord of the Rings: Card Game. I did that yesterday.

'''Pick a divisive discussion on the podcast and take a stand on it once and for all.'''

I don't know that it's necessarily a divisive discussion but @Neilan should be able to play solo games without being made fun of. I'll also weigh in on PamirGate: Even in a first play of a game, it's not any player's job to let another player know if they're making the right play. I also think the way the question worded was a big part of the problem. If Neilan had said something along the lines of "how does scoring with this card work?" that would've been fine.

'''What’s your favorite thing about being a Patreon?'''

I can't tell you, you'll just have to join to find out. :D

'''What game did you hear about through the podcast/from someone on the Discord that you now love?'''

Pretty much all of them. I was a board game baby before I started listening to BGG. I just hope that I helped some people here find games that they love as well.

'''Share a story of a time that you met/played games with a fellow BGBer.'''

I brought one of my designs to SHUX and the tanks were nice enough to give it a play. I really wanted to get @Red Tank to play it because I knew I would get honest feedback from him and I really did. Also, after that game we played Panic on Wall Street which was a highlight of the convention.

'''Where did you username and avatar come from?'''

Ever since I watched my first Olympics as a kid, I was in love with track. Once I got to high school, I joined the cross country and track teams and one of my friends drew a cartoon about me called Runnaman. I started using it as my username and it just stuck since it's pretty much always available. My avatar is me. If you need an explanation of where people come from maybe ask your parents? That picture specifically was from a few months ago. I put on a puffy vest that I hadn't worn in a while and I thought I looked nice so I took a selfie.

'''THURSDAY'''

'''The Perfect Game Day'''

The perfect game day is a Saturday in late Fall. It's drizzly and windy outside so I don't really want to go out but it's not cold and miserable. My friends come over in the early morning. We drink coffee and play a light game while we wait for everyone to arrive, perhaps Heul Dock Mau Mau or Sushi Go. Tame Impala radio is playing on the stereo. Once everyone's there, we break into something a little more involved like Quacks of Quedlinburg and then it's time for the first big game of the day: Sidereal Confluence. Once the game is over, we break for lunch. As we eat pizza, we talk about the crazy plays from the previous games. Then, it's time for the two big games of the day (preferably one we've played and one that's new): Terra Mystica and Arkwright. As we finish up these games, some people have to leave so it's back to some light games as the day comes to a close.

'''FRIDAY! List Day!'''

'''Here are some of my favorites:'''

Solo Games:

* Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth
* Spirit Island
* Exit Games

Interactive Games:

* Brass
* Sidereal Confluence

Games to introduce to complete newbies of the hobby, and why:

* Sushi Go - It's very simple to teach and people love the artwork on it.
* Bohnanza - Again, simple to teach and it's usually completely different than anything else they've played.

Artist:

* Up-and-coming artist Ian O'Toole - Everything is beautifully illustrated but also easy to follow.
* Kwanchai Moriya - Some of the best looking artwork in board gaming

Publishers:

* Cephalofair Games
* Capstone Games

Overrated:

* Hanabi

Underrated:

* Trogdor!

'''SATURDAY'''

'''What has changed the most in terms of your board game tastes from your early days as a gamer until now?'''

I used to bring a lot of games with me wherever I went, hoping that I could convince people to play. They either said no or just went through the motions. Once I started solo gaming, I could start playing the games I wanted and stop worrying if everyone at the table understood all the rules or if they were having a good time.

'''In all of board gaming, what is your biggest buying regret and why?'''

My biggest board game regret is trading away that copy of RoboRally that really got me into the hobby. Luckily, it was a local math trade and I found the person who has it on BGG and we're working out a trade to get it back.

'''How do you feel about board games as gifts?'''

Both giving and receiving. I like to give board games as gifts but I always choose games that have a theme that I know the person likes or I give them a game I know they have already played. 90% of the time that I've received a game as a gift, it's been something I would never get for myself. Like The Urban Dictionary Game.

'''How do you feel about protecting games? Sleeves, coin capsules, playmats, should they even be played?'''

I don't like sleeving games just because it takes so long. I know, I know "but you just put all of your Quacks' pieces inside coin capsules." I did that because the pieces were getting stuck in the back and I like the feel of the capsules better. Protecting the pieces is a tertiary benefit. I have no problem with a game that shows it's been played.

'''Do you ever think about designing a game?'''

<nowiki>:</nowiki><nowiki>|</nowiki>

'''What game needs a retheme?'''

Wingspan needs to be Pokémon game.

'''What’s the last board game related photo on your phone? No cheating if it’s embarrassing. What’s the story behind the photo?'''

I took this as I was putting the Quacks pieces in coin capsules.

In ''Bandada'', 1-2 players draft cards from an array that has an action listed on the top and a scoring method listed on the bottom. The actions on the cards allow players to manipulate twelve dice in three different colors. The scoring section of the cards relies on the twelve dice being in certain groups, orders, or values.

Once each player has drafted four cards, they tally their scores, and whoever has the most points wins!
