It’s been a while since we’ve done one of these! Bored from our recent bouts of co-operative board game drafting, this week’s episode sees the return to the competitive format, where we pit our games against one another, and let you decide who did it best. This week, two player games. Also… did we mention you can win $50 just by voting? Before we revel in democracy, we also talk about Rolling Freight, and Six-Sided Seas.
Neilan’s back to continue the journey down the lazy river of cardboard that is his top 50 board games of all time. It’s games 30 through 11! I just counted, and that’s twenty amazing games that I can’t wait to tell you all about!
I’m in a bit of a quandary here, because Mark told me not to tell you what this episode is even about, but I want this description to be, well, descriptive but he’s glaring at me really hard, and making a throat slitting gesture so I daren’t risk it. It’s about … board games? Before we get ahead of ourselves, we talk about Binho, Stamp Swap, and First Rat.
Bob’s back from his trip to 2014, and oh the wonders he’s seen – games that not only were amazing back then, but somehow we’re still talking about today! The counterpoint to our draft of games to last a decade, we’re arguing about the games from ten years ago that are still relevant – BGBBOB style. Before we yearn for our youth, we talk about Cyberion, The Plum Island Horror, and Marabunta.
More isn’t always better, but that’s sometimes a hard lesson to learn in the world of board games – we dig into an intriguing listener suggestion about how games (and gamers) can often fall into this trap. Also … I guess we’ve got to plan some games for our funerals? It’s a double hit of listener questions! Before we dress in black, we talk about Keydom’s Dragons, Sagrada Artisans, and Hegemony: Lead Your Class to Victory.
We’re almost bursting at the seams, but there’s room for a little more. It’s the penultimate episode of our five part series, the Top 50 games of all-time! We’re moving on to our 20th to 11th favourite games, which means it’s time for some big risers and dramatic falls. Make yourself a coffee (sugar’s over there in the corner), it’s not time to sleep just yet.
It’s a new year, but the list must go on. The list, that is, of our top fifty greatest games of all time! It’s part three, which everyone knows is the dark middle chapter of every pentalogy, so expect some swoops, some turns, some revelations. Brace yourself for another thirty incredible games that we can’t wait to tell you all about.
The penultimate episode of the grand series is here, it’s the BGB Top 50! As the journey approaches its end, we’re venturing into our 20th to 11th favourite games, with some support from the peanut gallery. And with thirty more board games to blitz through, who better to help us than Ambie Valdés of Board Game Blitz!
We love Uwe Rosenberg around these parts, whether it’s because of our infatuation with polyominoes, the need to keep workers fed, or the strange mechanisms of animal breeding. Join us down the (cottage) garden path of his designography, and make sure to plant some vegetables along the way. Before we get agricultural, we talk about Bosk, Spies & Lies: A Stratego Story, and Glen More II: Chronicles.
As longstanding experts on being cute, we thought we’d finally bring both of our fields of expertise to bear on one topic. It’s a return to the classic top five list, and we’re counting down the cutest goshdarn board games we can think of. Before things get kawaii, we talk about Nations, Mountain Goats, and Brew.
